Avatar is a 2009 American epic science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver. In a human-controlled Alpha Centauri system a large tree grows on Pandora – a lush moon that was previously thought destroyed – having been saved from the extinction event of 250 years before by the Engineers who created the moon. Scientists explore the planet Pandora and soon discover that it has a breathable atmosphere and an otherworldly ecosystem. However, the Na'vi things that live there believe that humans are destroying their world and ruthlessly attack. An international coalition of scientists led by Dr. Grace Augustine use flying drones to destroy the avatar's forest in retaliation, but is discovered by the Na'vi who seek to end the conflict.
